Baby Chicks Off the Lights

Baby Chicks Off the Lights

Chickens
These guys were on heat lamps until today. The temps overnight are still dipping in the low 40's, but TODAY it's going to be in the 80's and they get to be outside! The chicks are being 'weaned' from the heating lamp. They are getting feathered out. They are looking quite beautiful! It is going to rain this weekend. Now I can only hope they have the good sense to use their little ramp and come in out of the rain. Normally I wouldn't put them out until they are fully feathered, but the temps are in the 80's and they will be fine outdoors. Probably scared them to death.

Chickens
Okay. So I moved to town. I sold out... through no real choice of my own (long story) I moved from out in the country with five acres and a large home to a small town. Yes, we are large enough to have a 'Wal-Mart' and we recently even got our own Lowe's store... wow. But Atwoods is still my favorite hardware/garden parts/camping stuff/ all around urban homestead place to shop. And they also happen to be the only place in town that sells baby chicks in the spring. My daughter and her high school friends tagged along while I was shopping (yes, clothing store, around the corner from where I was headed). But somehow they ended up with me at Atwoods. And I took these girls shopping with me…
